Hello Nayumi!
I like Japan, its history, calligraphy, names, and also their etymologic meanings. e.g. such famous names like suzuki (=belling tree), honda (=real field), yamaha (=mountain wing), .. invoked my interest about the kanji and hiragana. I also didnt know that these terms was connected through middle chinese kanji = (kan) chinese + (ji) character in 10th century, which was/is mostly used for nouns, adjectives and adverbs; and as I learned of hiragana hira=plain, kana= ka na = false name = pseudonym = "plain pseudonym" I got the enlightment about how to form the flexibility of the language..
But kanji really makes problem of the pronunciation, for each set of characters you should know it. I thought that the japenese ppl just need to translate like in common languages, but i was wrong, also they have to research isolated words, to split and mean, so this makes much more problem for me to obtain the meaning of a component. At least some of components are constantly used within the words. For instance, taking Kikuchi; i would say "tree mouth" (ki kuchi) and Nayumi i would say "walking through" (ayumi, na)
please correct me if i am wrong.
I am still looking forward to get infos from anywhere or from ppl over net when i am interested about a word, its great. :)
greetings
photon
