The prime suspect for the attack is Lebanon’s powerful Hezbollahmilitia, which is suspected of possessing more than 13,000 rockets and short-rangemissiles. But observers have not ruled out the possibility that the rocket salvo was anaccidental discharge or, more ominously, the work of a separate terrorist group. “Theserockets are not easily available and if a non-Lebanese group has got them, then that’s avery scary situation which could easily drag Lebanon into a war,” according to one formerofficial with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)."
