Wikipedia: Rayleigh-Streuung
NASA Announces Wednesday Media Teleconference About Search For Extraterrestrial Lifehttp://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2010/apr/HQ_M10-064_ET_Telecon.html (Archiv-Version vom 30.04.2010)
WASHINGTON -- NASA will hold a news media teleconference at 1:30 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, April 28, to discuss the status of agency-sponsored astrobiology research, including the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life and the study of how life began on Earth. Topics also will include the quest for evidence of life on Mars, the habitability of other celestial bodies, and future technology research.
Water has been spotted on an orbiting asteroid for the first time, according to a new study of a space rock that appears to be coated with frost.http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/04/100428-asteroid-water-first-ice-frost-themis/
What's more, the frost seems to be mixed with carbon-bearing material, according to results from two independent teams studying the asteroid, which is known as 24 Themis.
"We report the first detection of water ice and of organic molecules on an asteroid, and they are both on the same asteroid," said Humberto Campins of the University of Central Florida, leader of one of the teams.
They were particularly excited about the discovery of a sulphate called gypsum which, it has emerged recently, is found in large quantities among fossils in the Mediterranean.
He also said that the detection of methane in the martian atmosphere - as revealed exclusively by The Sun - raised the possibility that there was still life on Mars today.http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2951855/Nasa-Evidence-of-life-on-mars.html#ixzz0mRDHXFV1 (Archiv-Version vom 12.08.2010)
"Methane is a molecule that should go away very quickly. We need to send a mission to find out if the source is biological.
