Turkey has the largest army in Europe and the eighth-largest in the world, according to alist published in The Independent.
An article published on Thursday in theIndependent said that China has the world's largest army with 2.2 million troops and itis followed by the United States with 1.4 million troops.
India has 1.3 milliontroops and ranks third, according to Independent, which based its news onWashington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies and the U.S. Departmentof Defense.
Turkey has 514,850 troops and sits at the eighth place in the top 10list, in which no other European countries were included.
Also in the news, U.S.President George Bush was also quoted as saying at an end-of-year press conference thathe wants "to increase the size of the U.S. military - currently the second largest in theworld - to allow America to take on a "long struggle against radicals and extremists."
