Turkey says it will do ‘whatever is required' against Iranhttp://www.todayszaman.com/news-289166-turkey-says-it-will-do-whatever-is-required-against-iran.html (Archiv-Version vom 10.08.2012)

In a sign of a further rift with its mullah regime neighbor, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç slammed Iran on Thursday, saying that the Turkish government is disturbed by Iran's stance against Turkey.
Speaking to a group of reporters over an iftar (fast-breaking) dinner, Arınç said that Ankara is uncomfortable with the positions the Iranian government has taken recently towards Turkey on a number of issues, not necessarily tied to the Syrian crisis.
“What I mean by disturbing behavior [by the Iranian regime] is not related to Syria,” he said, stressing that Turkey will do ‘whatever is required” to counter Iranian threats.
The Turkish minister implied that a recent surge in terror attacks in Turkey's Southeast has the backing of Iran. “We have received information that Kurdistan Workers' Party [PKK] terrorists infiltrated from the Iranian side of the border and that they were stationed in the Şehidan camp [in Iran] and crossed into Turkey from the region of Harkuk in northern Iraq,” he said.

The crisis triggered by Bashar al-Assad's regime, which has been tyrannizing and massacring its own people -- who want nothing but freedom and democracy -- in an unprecedented manner for the past 17 months, seems to have set newer crises in motion with the potential to affect a wider geography and last longer. The regional actors such as Iran, Hezbollah and Iraq's Maliki administration, which lend support to Assad's massacres for political, geostrategic or religious purposes, are sowing the seeds for a regional Cold War with their ruthless moves and threatening statements.
As Syria, where a new massacre is reported every day, is quickly emerging as a bloody proxy war among the regional and global actors, Iran and pro-Iranian Baghdad and Hezbollah spurt a new case of verbal or physical aggression against Turkey. In particular, the Iranian press has recently been teeming with articles injecting a high dose of hostility against Turkey. Iranian officials one after another threaten Turkey. It seems that harsh anti-Turkey threats and statements have become the new method for Iranian officials to show their loyalty to the mullah regime. Using all sorts of available methods, Iran is trying to undermine the respectability and prestige of Turkey and sabotage its influence in the region out of jealousy for Turkey's triumph in the competition for regional leadership.

Situation in Syria improving, Iranian MP sayshttp://www.presstv.ir/detail/2012/08/11/255776/situation-in-syria-improving/ (Archiv-Version vom 14.08.2012)

A senior Iranian lawmaker says the situation in Syria has greatly improved compared to the state of affairs a few months ago.
Iranian Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks on Saturday, adding, “The improvement curve in Syria is ascending.”
He also mentioned the consultative meeting on Syria held in Tehran on Thursday, with the participation of senior officials from 30 countries, saying the meeting was important.
“The proposal put forward by Iran’s foreign minister [at the meeting] about a three-month truce is a logical one,” Boroujerdi stated.
He also criticized the foreign countries interfering in Syria’s internal affairs, saying all the countries that support terrorists in the country, including the United States and its European allies, should be held accountable before the world.
“They [the West] seek to destroy the anti-Zionist resistance front to serve the Zionist regime,” he added.
